Similarly, Chandi Lama, 60, Phurku Lama, 64, one-and-a-half-year old daughter of Pema Syangbo Lama and Kunsan Dhawa, two-year-old daughter of Pasang Chhiring, have also died in Prok VDC-7.

Around 30 people have fallen sick due to the disease. "Most of the sick are children," said Norbu Sanduk Lama, a resident of Prok VDC. "Some families have their two to three members sick." According to Lama, all the elderly and children complained of headache, stomach ache and vomiting, among other symptoms.

Lama said the local people are helpless as they cannot take the sick to the district headquarters, which is five-day walk from Prok VDC.

According to Bishwa Ram Shrestha, the chief of the District Public Health Office of Gorkha, a team of four health workers has already reached Prok VDC by helicopter. "We are sending more health workers and medicines," Shrestha told Republica.
