Issuing a press statement on Wednesday evening, Dr KC said that he decided to hold off his protest for two weeks after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli sought some time to study his demands.PM Oli met with Dr KC on Sunday evening during which he had told Dr KC that he needed some time to study his demands and reminded him of the hard times the country has been facing as a result of the border blockade and the earthquake.
"I have decided to postpone the hunger strike by two weeks considering the difficulties the country has been grappling with as well as PM Oli's request for time," reads the statement.
Dr KC, who has staged seven hunger strikes demanding reforms in the country's medical education sector, had warned of holding another fast-unto-death if the government did not stop activities that violated the pact signed between him and the government in the past.
Dr KC had warned of mounting a hunger strike after the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) tabled the Manmohan Adhikari Academy of Health Sciences-2015 bill in the parliament.
He has warned to start a hunger strike after two weeks if new medical colleges are granted affiliation. Dr KC has said in the statement that he will have no objection if new colleges are granted affiliation after the formation of a new medical education policy.
A high level task force formed by the government to recommend ways to reform medical education in the country had suggested holding off new affiliations to medical colleges until the creation of a new medical education policy.
