While delivering a statement on behalf of Nepal at the 11th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the LLDCs in New York on Wednesday, Minister Shrestha said the implementation of the Almaty Program of Action is a must to help LLDCs overcome their inherent geographical difficulties and provide them with support to eradicate poverty and hunger, achieve sustained economic growth and facilitate better integration into the world economy through increased flow of trade and investment. Stating that there is a need to redouble the efforts to ensure facilitation of trade and transit from LLDCs through better infrastructures, Shrestha also called on international community to assist in establishing efficient transit system for LLDCs.
"The LLDCs should also be provided with an increased support for their trade initiatives to help strengthen their productive capacities, develop their infrastructure and enhance competitiveness in the global market," he added.

Besides participating in the side event on LDC Agenda in a Post Rio+20 Perspective, DPM Shrestha also held bilateral meetings with various world leaders on the sideline of the UNGA and held discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations on Wednesday, according to a press statement issued by Nepal´s Permanent Mission to the UN.
He held bilateral meetings with Swiss President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, President of Maldives Mohamed Waheed, New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully, Norway´s Minister for International Development Heikki Holmas and Turkey´s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci.
