Every week, donor comes out in droves to provide assistance to the flood victims at Tallo Dungeshwor. But, the flood victims displaced in other places, which are relatively remote areas in the district, are left in the lurch in the lack of any kind of support.
Chief District Officer, Homnath Thapaliya, informed that there is duplication in doling out the succor for flood victims as the donors do not coordinate with the administration. “The donors inform us after allocating the relief package. Their lack of coordination with the administration has caused the assistance to concentrate in one place only,” says CDO Thapaliya.
According a report prepared by Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, 155 families were hit hard by the flood last month. Among them, 54 families in Jagannath, Rakam Karnali, Tallo Dungeshwor and Tunibagar villages were completely rendered homeless.
“We were displaced after Karnali River swept way our homes,” says Arjun Nepali, of Rakam Karnali-1. “The food grain provided by the district administration office as relief ran out just in a week,” he laments. He also informed that no organization turned up to his place to provide any kind of support.
Like Arjun, the food victims displaced in Tunibagar , Ramgadh, and Jagannath also complains of not being provided with ample assistance.
Natural Disaster Rescue Committee had decided to introduce one-door policy to ensure equal distribution of assistance to all the flood victims. But lately, the donors have concentrated only at Badi community affected by the flood at Tallo Dungeshwor.
“Now on, the donors coming to provide relief packages would be sent to the other places too,” says CDO Thapaliya. According to the report, the flood victims at Tallo Dungeshwor, where 42 families were displaced, have already been provided with a relief worth over 2 million rupees. However, the flood victims displaced in the other places haven´t received any assistance except paltry relief provided by the government.
As per the record maintained at the District Administration Office, nine houses in Ramghat were completely washed away while 32 houses were partially damaged in the flood, which displaced 41 families altogether.
Likwise, out of the 32 displaced households in Tunibagar, seven were completely destroyed while 25 partially damaged. Similarly, one house was leveled to the ground while 11 more houses sustained partial damage at Jagannah VDC in the last month´s flood.
