BANKE, Jan 20: Government officials in Banke district say that they are sick and tired of giving donations to cadres of different political parties. Acting Chief of District Land Revenue Office Dalbahadur Khatri said he received two letters this week alone from different groups demanding donations.

"I have been asked to provide donation of up to Rs 50,000," he said, adding, "Sister organizations of all major political parties have been bothering us in the name of donation." [break]

According to officials working in government offices in the district, cadres of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist), and Madhes-based parties have been involved in donation collection.

Maoist student wing has been collecting donations for its ninth national convention to be held in Butwal a month later.

"We request them not to ask for any donation as there is no budget for it, but they refuse to listen to us and tell us that we should provide donation even from our salaries," survey officer Sanjaya Chhatkuli lamented.
