RASUWA, Nov 18: Aaita Ram Damai, a local of Dadagaun of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-3, Rasuwa district, cannot speak and walk. Sadly, his wife is deaf.

As their house was destroyed by the devastating earthquake in 2015, the couple was compelled to move to Shanti Bazaar of Nuwakot and start living in a tent.

In the midst of the election campaigning, dozens of campaigning vehicles and carders pass their small tent.

However, all have turned a blind eye to the helpless couple.

None of the political party candidates has approached Aaita and his wife asking for votes. All candidates contesting the upcoming election have been ignoring the disabled couple. “There are just nine days to go for the upcoming election, but none of the candidates has come to my tent to ask for votes,” laments Aaita.

In the past, Aaita voted thrice in the elections of 2008, 2013 and 2017. He said, “Earlier during the local elections, they made a pretentious work list while seeking our votes but they have turned a blind eye to our problems now.”

Aaita has the ownership certificate of his land owned but the house reconstruction grant was taken by his son. “I only dream of a small house where I can stay warm during the winter and dry during the rainy season,” Aaita said.
