Speaking in the parliament, Maoist spokesperson and lawmaker Dinanath Sharma said the nationality was at stake due to the foreign intervention.
He said the parliament should not remain quiet while foreign intervention in the government´s decision was putting the country´s sovereignty at stake.
“All political parties must support the government´s decision to establish people´s supremacy over the army,” he said, adding, “It´s not good to withdraw the government´s decision under foreign pressure.” He said a serious conspiracy was being hatched to impose presidential rule in the army´s backing like the one in Bangladesh.
He said the Maoists can´t step back from the decision to sack Katawal. “We are ready for any consequence,” he said.
Ruling CPN-UML lawmaker Shankar Pokharel said a political consensus was required to maintain people´s supremacy. He said individual and arbitrary decisions can´t be tolerated in the name of maintaining people´s supremacy,” he said.
Stating that the issue of seeking clarification from army chief Katawal was inappropriate, Pokharel said the national institution should not be dragged into controversy. “The Maoists have ignored people´s supremacy a number of times in the past by continuing their atrocities,” Pokharel said, adding, “The Maoists must stop their atrocious activities to respect people´s supremacy.”
Lawmaker from the ruling Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Rajkishor Yadav said the national institution like Nepal Army should not be brought into controversy.
