Diarrhea claims two in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, April 8: Two children, including an infant, died of diarrhea, in the last one week in Bageba, Basantpur VDC of Sarlahi district.

Rohit Raut, three-month-old son of Ganesh Raut and Nandani Mandal, eight-month-old son of Badri Mandal died of diarrhea, according to Prabhakar Jha, public health inspector at District Health Office (DHO), Sarlahi.


As many as 22 locals of 19 households from Bageba village are suffering from diarrhea.

Diarrhea outbreak has gripped a settlement with low income families in Basantpur VDC in the district since last week.

Meanwhile, a team of health workers has been sent to the affected areas to take stock of the situation. The area is 25 km east of the district headquarters, Malangwa. The team will study the impact of the epidemic and find out the actual number of patients. They will also distribute medicines, said Jha.

Condition of two patients is said to be critical.

The DHO came to learn about the diarrhea outbreak on Tuesday afternoon, according to public health officer Mohammad Daud, who is also the chief at DHO, Malangwa.

"After the team came up with detailed report of diarrhea outbreak, we'll organize a free health camp for diarrhea patients," said Daud.
