Dhital won the women´s 400 meters freestyle in a record time of 5 minutes 36.27 seconds, breaking the previous record of 5 minutes 40.88 seconds set by Karishma Karki during the 10th South Asian Games in Colombo in 2006. It was Dhital´s maiden national record. Sheila Gurung of Xavier Academy finished second and Rashika Paudel of Pathshala Nepal took third position in the event. [break]
Meanwhile, Shah bettered her own national record of 1 minute 7.23 seconds in 100 meters freestyle with a new timing of 1 minute 6.12 seconds. Shah had set the previous record in the event during the 4th Junior FINA World Championship in Dubai earlier this year. Dhital and Gurung finished second and third respectively on Saturday.
Shah also won another gold medal in the women´s 50 meters backstroke with a timing of 38.26 seconds.
In the men´s section, Shirish Gurung of Nepal Police Club added six gold medals to his overnight tally of four to take his total to 10 golds. Gurung bagged five golds in individual events and one in team event on Saturday.
Gurung won the 800 meters freestyle (11 minutes 0.85 seconds), 200 meters freestyle (2 minutes 15.16 seconds), 100 meters backstroke (1 minute 28.19 seconds), 200 meters backstroke (2 minutes 43.11 seconds) and 100 meters freestyle (1 minute 7.44 seconds) to cap off another memorable day in his illustrious career at the national level.
Gurung also bagged gold in the men´s 4x50 meters freestyle relay on Saturday.
Sonira Bista of Nepal Army claimed two golds in the women´s section. She won the women´s 200 meters breaststroke with a timing of 3 minutes 17.84 seconds and the 100 meters breaststroke (1 minute 36.35 seconds) to complete a gold double.
Sheila Gurung was also on the list of gold medalists as she won the women´s 100 meters butterfly with a timing of 1 minute 39.93 seconds.
Other swimmers to win gold medals on the second day of the three-day tournament were Pawel Shah of Little Angels´ (men´s 50 meters butterfly in 45.40 seconds), Rashika Paudel of Pathshala Nepal (women´s 50 meters backstroke in 46.
11 seconds), Shreetika Singh of Lincoln (women´s 100 meters butterfly in 1 minute 35.09 seconds), Devesh Manandhar of Holy Garden (men´s 100 meters backstroke in 1 minute 22.92 seconds), Swarnima Tamang of NOBS (women´s 50 meters backstroke in 51.03 seconds), Rojan Rai of Dikshant Academy (men´s 50 meters butterfly in 39.82 seconds), Kiran Karki of Baba Boarding School (men´s 100 meters breaststroke in 1 minute 25 seconds) and Jayant Prakash Gurung of Dhumbarahi Swim Club (men´s 50 meters butterfly in 31.32 seconds).
