DHANGADHI, Aug 2: A flash flood caused by incessant rainfall since Saturday night has inundated hundreds of settlements in Dhangadhi Municipality of Kailali district.

The transportation services, schools and market places were badly affected after roads became waterlogged and rainwater gushed into buildings, according to District Police Office (DPO), Kailali.

Dozens of displaced families have been shifted to safer locations, informed Superintendent of Police Bikram Chanda at DPO, Kailali.

According to him, hundreds of houses have been inundated in ward number one and three of Dhangadhi Municipality.

The flood also caused a truck with a registration number Ra 1 Kha 845 to overturn in the district headquarters. The truck driver was rescued alive, according to the DPO.

Although the flood has inundated Dhangadhi Municipality, the remaining parts of the district have remained unaffected.

Meanwhile, Uttam Joshi, president of Nepal Red Cross Society, Kailali blamed the accumulation of water to the encroachment of canals and local streams by the locals.

However, local administration has turned a deaf ear toward encroachment of local streams, Joshi added.
