DHANGADHI, Dec 2: Students have been protesting in Dhangadhi since morning today, defying the prohibitory order issued by the district administration, over the death of 15-year-old Chetana Saud, an 8th grader at Panchodaya Secondary School. The police used force on the students. Some students were beaten and arrested by the police.
Locals have criticized the police administration for using force on the students under the age of 16 who were protesting for justice for their classmate. After the students were baton-charged and arrested, there was widespread criticism on social media.
After the eyewitnesses said that the driver reversed the vehicle and ran it over the girl when she was only hit by the grader first, the students got angry and protested. After the police used force and arrested the students on Thursday, the students became furious with the police. After the situation became tense, the District Administration Office Kailali issued a 24-hour prohibition order in Dhangadhi from 7 pm on Thursday to 7 pm on Friday.
The schools and shops in the market area are closed.
