Dhami reaches badminton semis in three categories

KATHMANDU, March 28: Departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Dipesh Dhami has advanced into the semifinals of the 15th Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament in three categories on Wednesday. 


At the APF’s Covered Hall in Halchowk, Dhami reached the last four in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles. 


In men’s singles, Dhami defeated APF’s Gautam Singh Kathayat 21-14, 21-8, while Dhami and Bijit Thapa Magar saw off APF’s Bishal Pradhan and Bimal Shrestha 21-13, 21-19. Similarly, in mixed doubles, Dhami and Puja Shrestha beat Jest Badminton Academy’s Akhil Shrestha and Dina Pun 21-17, 21-7 to reach the last four. 


In men’s singles, the other departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club’s Praphul Maharjan, Silk Group’s Prince Dahal and Nepal Police Club’s Jeevan Acharya also reached the semifinals. 

Maharjan defeated APF’s Sudeep Sedhain 21-18, 21-11, Dahal beat APF’s Sunil Joshi 21-15, 21-19, Acharya saw off APF’s Sajan Krishna Tamrakar 21-18, 21-17.

In men’s doubles, Police’s Deepak Bohora and Jeevan Acharya reached the semifinals defeating APF’s Suman Limbu and Joseph Adhikari 21-12, 21-9. 


Likewise, APF’s Sedhain and Tamrakar’s pair overcame APF’s Sunil Joshi and Gautam Singh Kathayat 21-18, 21-18 to enter the last four and fixed the meeting with Army’s Praphul Maharjan and Suroj Maharjan, who saw off Silk Group’s Dahal and APF’s Nir Bikram Devkota 21-15, 21-16. 

In mixed doubles, APF’s Kathayat and Sunaina Mukhiya, Army’s Suroj Maharjan and Amita Giri, and APF’s Bijit Thapa Magar and Sobha Gauchan reached the last four. 


Meanwhile, in women’s singles, Army dominated the event as Giri, Rasila Maharjan, Jessica Gurung and Anu Maya Rai secured their semifinal places. 


Giri beat Morang’s Seema Rajbanshi 21-15, 21-19, while Gurung saw off APF’s Sobha Gauchan 21-8, 21-14. Also, Maharjan defeated Army’s Ranjana Bhatta 21-11, 21-15, while Rai overcame APF’s Mukhiya 21-11, 14-21, 21-18 to reach the last four. 


In women’s doubles, Army’s Giri and Bhatta defeated APF’s Puja Shrestha and Gurung to advance into the last four, while APF’s Gauchan and Mukhiya saw off Army’s Rai and Maharjan.  


Giri and Bhatta overcame Jest’s Dina Pun and Jyoti Limbu 21-14, 21-18, Shrestha and Gurung beat Morang’s Nita Lamsal and Rajbanshi 21-8, 21-11, Gauchan and Mukhiya got past Jest’s Manisha Khadka and Tara Ale 21-9, 21-17. Also, Rai and Maharjan defeated Bhojpur’s Seeta Rai and Banke’s Samjhana Sherma 21-11, 21-10. 


In boys’ singles, Dahal defeated Mahendranagar’s Prakash Chand 21-8, 21-10 and fixed his semifinal clash with APF’s Priyanshu Singh Chhetri, who beat Dhangadhi’s Amrit Chaudhary 21-17, 21-12. Also, APF’s Pemba Sherpa will meet Army’s Diwas Shankar. Sherpa beat Morang’s Ujjwal Pokhharel 21-14, 21-15, while Shankar saw off Kanchanpur’s Gokul Jora 22-20, 21-13. 


In girls’ singles, Army’s Rasila Maharjan, Ranjana Bhatta, Morang’s Neeta Lamsal and Seema Rajbanshi advanced into the semis. Maharjan beat Jest’s Anisha Neupane 21-6, 21-5 and fixed her meeting with Lamsal who overcame Morang’s Rose Pandey 21-7, 21-8. Also, Bhatta got past Birgunj’s Smriti Rai 21-8, 21-9.
