Tamang, Dhami into last eight of Pushpalal Open Badminton

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: National champion Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ratnajit Tamang and Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Deepesh Dhami have advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing eighth Pushpalal Memorial National Open Badminton Tournament on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: National champion Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ratnajit Tamang and Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Deepesh Dhami have advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing eighth Pushpalal Memorial National Open Badminton Tournament on Wednesday.


In men’s singles category, six-time champion Tamang defeated APF’s Sunil Joshi in straight sets of 21-6, 21-17 to reach the last eight, while Dhami saw off Army’s Praphul Maharjan in straight sets of 21-15, 21-15 to book his quarterfinal place.


Likewise, in the other matches played on the same day, Nepal Police Club’s Bishnu Katuwal and Nir Bikram Devkota were also successful to reach the last eight.  Katuwal beat APF’s Bijit Thapa Magar 21-17, 21-14, while Devkota overcame APF’s Sudeep Sedhain 12-19, 21-8, 21-10.

Also, Army’s Rukesh Maharjan saw off APF’s Sajan Krishna Tamrakar 21-18, 21-14; Army’s Nabin Shrestha beat Police’s Jeevan Acharya 21-7, 21-13; Bhojpur’s Bikash Shrestha defeated APF’s Gautam Kathayat 21-17, 21-16; and Silk Group’s Prince Dahal overcame Police’s Deepak Bohora 21-19, 21-14 to secure their berths in the quarterfinals. Similarly, APF’s Jessica Gurung, the winner of the seventh edition, also reached the quarterfinals in women’s singles category defeating Bhojpur’s Seeta Rai 21-17, 21-19. Likewise, Army’s Nangsal Devi Tamang, Anu Maya Rai, Rasila Maharjan, Ranjana Bhatt, and Amita Giri also reached the last eight. 


Tamang defeated JEST’s Mahima Shrestha 21-5, 21-3; Rai beat JEST’s Safi Khatri 21-5, 21-10; Maharjan saw off JEST’s Manisha Khadka 21-8, 21-4; Bhatt overcame Morang’s Seema Rajbanshi 21-18, 17-21, 21-16; and Giri got past Bhojpur’s Loktama Rai 21-2, 21-8. 


Likewise, Banke’s Samjhana Sharma secured the last eight spot with 21-13, 21-19 set win over APF’s Shobha Gurung, while JEST’s Tara Ale saw off Tara Ale 21-18, 21-13 to reach the quarterfinals. 


Meanwhile, in men’s doubles, APF’s Dhami and Thapa Magar defeated the Lalitpur pair of Shyam Maharjan and Krishna Shrestha 21-12, 21-19 to get into the last eight. 


Likewise, Police’s Bohara and Acharya beat another Lalitpur pair of Radeep Maharjan and Bhuwan Shrestha 21-4, 21-15, while Banke’s Irfan Ansari and Riyaj Ansari saw off JEST’s Sujan Thapa and Ram Baniya 21-10, 21-19.


Likewise, APF’s Kathayat and Sunil Joshi beat Army’s Suroj Maharjan and Pabin Lingthep 24-22, 21-10; Army’s Rukesh and Praphul saw off Lalitpur’s Sanil Shakya and Suman Shakya 21-9, 21-11; APF’s Tamrakar and Sedhain defeated Lalitpur’s Shreejan Tamrakar and Rajendra Maharjan 21-17, 21-14; and Police’s Katuwal and Anish Shrestha overcame Lalitpur’s Pradeep Maharjan and Bikash Maharjan 21-13, 21-17. Also, Army’s Ratnajit and Nabin Shrestha beat Lalitpur’s Dauth Rai and Ganesh Gurung 21-14, 21-8 to reach the quarterfinals.
