Secretary of MoTCA, Kishore Thapa stressed on making the SIA mega project a success in order to attract more foreign direct investments (FDI) into the country.
“SIA and Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track are projects of high priority to the government as they are the first two projects under build-operate-own-transfer (BOOT) model,” he added. He further said that there was no alternative to SIA project because the only international airport of the country was over-crowded and that there is a need of a full-fledged airport to match the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard.
He said, “I am happy we have reached the first milestone with completion of DFS.”
Seung-Hyung Lee, the senior vice-president of LMW, that conducted the study, said his company is looking forward to implement the project as well. “We believe that government of Nepal will fulfill its commitment of giving priority to LMW in the implementation of the project,” he added.
The coordinator of SIA committee of the government and joint-secretary at MoTCA, Ranjan Krishna Aryal said that the BOOT committee will select a company for implementing the project within six months.
“The project will be awarded to the company that will forward best proposal,” secretary Thapa said, adding that LMW will be given priority for conducting the DFS.
