SINDHUPALCHOWK, June 27: District Forest Officer (DFO) of Sindhupalchowk Murari Prasad Pokharel on Sunday abused five journalists including Republica correspondent Dhruba Dangal for writing news stories against him.

The other journalists who were abused are Sindhupalchowk district chapter president of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Pabitra Kumar Khadka, secretary Gyanendra Timilsina, Annapurna Post correspondent Yuvaraj Puri and News 24 reporter Tika Dahal.

DFO Pokharel abused them in his own office. Police had to intervene when DFO Pokharel tried to pick up a tea table to hurl at journalists.

Pokharel has come in for vehement criticism in several newspapers after a Chinese national, Gongbu, who was arrested with red sandalwood and orchids, was released by the district court of Sindhupalchowk. On the basis of case filed by Pokharel, the court had fined Gongbu just Rs 15,000.
