KATHMANDU, July 31: The Ministry of Home Affairs and the families of Om Prakash Mahata and Jay Prakash Mahata, who were killed in the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari, have reached a seven-point agreement.
The agreement was reached following discussions over the July 26 incident in Kasiyaganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, during which the ministry pledged to address the victims' demands as soon as possible.
Under the agreement, the government will immediately initiate the process of declaring both deceased individuals as martyrs. It has also agreed to provide compensation of Rs 1 million to each bereaved family.

The Ministry has also committed to conducting an impartial investigation into the incident that occurred on the night of July 26 and to initiating legal action against those found responsible in accordance with prevailing laws.
The agreement further states that an immediate investigation will be launched into the legal status of the madrasa in Devanganj Rural Municipality-3 and other related issues.
In addition, one qualified member from each of the victims' families will be provided with an employment opportunity. The recommendations made by the investigation committee formed to probe the incident will also be implemented promptly in accordance with the law.
The government has also agreed to construct a memorial park in coordination with the local government at a suitable location within the rural municipality in memory of the two deceased.
As part of the agreement, the two sides also agreed to perform the final rites of the deceased at 2:00 pm on Friday.
