Speaking at a sensitization program for the party's cadres of province 5 on the new constitution on Tuesday, Deuba said that the party was marred by factional politics and only his leadership could end the trend forever.
“Trust me this time. I shall end the factional politics in the party forever,” he said adding, there has been no sense of unity in the party though he and Girija Prasad Koirala united it.
His statement came in response to criticism from some party cadres at the program that accused senior party leaders including him of promoting factional activities within the party instead of treating all party carders equally.
Similarly, vice president of the party Ram Chandra Poudel, another party president candidate, said that changing working style of the party will be his first priority if the party elects him party president.
Party's Surkhet district chairman, Tapta Bahadur Bista, said that there are three party factions led by the establishment, Deuba and Khum Bahadur Khadka faction in Dang district.
“There are high chances of internal conflict between party cadres in the district because of senior leaders' encouragement to factional activities,” said Bista to Deuba in the program.
Acting chairman of party in Banke district, Lahuram Chaudary, opined that the party leadership does not have the courage to take action against party members that promote factional activities as senior leaders themselves are involved in it.
“The tendency among senior leaders of promoting factional activities to fulfill their personal interests has seriously marred the party's public standing. It is high time that it is corrected,” Chaudary opined.
Prakash Sharan Mahat, a NC leader close to Deuba, also stressed on ending the trend of promoting factional politics in the party that he claimed catered to personal interests of senior leaders.
Some members at the meet termed party's decision to remain outside the government at the time of implementing the new constitution as unfortunate. “Our party was the driving force in the drafting of the new constitution. And it is unfortunate for the party to fail in leading its implementation,” a party cadre said.
