Deuba-Khadka faction moves SC seeking to halt NC general convention

The Deuba-Khadka faction approached the court after the party’s establishment faction began preparations for the general convention while a case concerning the NC’s official status remains sub judice at the SC.

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka have moved the Supreme Court (SC), seeking to halt the process for the party’s 15th general convention under the leadership of Gagan Thapa.



The Deuba-Khadka faction approached the court after the party’s establishment faction began preparations for the general convention while a case concerning the NC’s official status remains sub judice at the SC.


According to reports, NC leader Dipak Khadka appeared at the SC as Deuba’s authorized representative, while advocate Shravan Kumar represented Purna Bahadur Khadka. Min Bishwakarma, coordinator of the publicity committee of the party’s opposition faction, confirmed that the petition had reached the Supreme Court.

The establishment faction has published a schedule to begin ward-level conventions on September 9 and hold the 15th general convention from October 2 to 5.
