A fierce verbal altercation took place at the CWC meeting for over four hours between Deuba and Koirala faction after Koirala in the beginning of the meeting asked Tarun Dal President Mahendra Yadav and NWA Chairperson Ambika Basnet to resign their posts and ´cooperate´ with him. [break]
Some 35 CWC members close to Deuba faction walked out of the meeting after President Koirala refused to change his decision although majority of CWC members had opined against dissolving the sister organizations.
Talking to Republica, Gopal Man Shrestha said they boycotted the meeting as the president decided to set up a three member committee to form general convention preparation committees for Nepal Students´ Union, Tarun and Nepal Women´s Associations.
The three-member committee includes party general secretary Prakash Man Singh and CWC members Bal Bahadur KC and Surendra Pandey. "The CWC meeting formed a three-member committee to look after preparation of general conventions and monitor other sister organizations of the party," said General Secretary Singh.
While Koirala is in favor of forming an ad hoc committee to hold general conventions of the three sister organizations, Deuba faction maintains that the current bodies of the sister organizations themselves should be directed to hold their general conventions at the earliest. Deuba faction argues that dissolution of the bodies of sister organizations would not send good message within and outside the party.
The CWC meeting on Sunday was marked with heated debate between the CWC members of the two factions as they differed if the resignation of president would mean automatic dissolution of entire central working committee of a sister organization.
According to a CWC member present in the meeting, Deuba faction had asked Koirala to include two more members - Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat - in the committee. As Koirala turned down even that proposal, Deuba faction had suggested Koirala to include two other members - Bhisma Raj Angdangwe and Kamala Panta - in the committee as proposed by Dr Shekhar Koirala.
Deuba faction, however, maintained that the committee should look after the general convention of NSU alone, not of Tarun Dal and NWA.
During the meeting, Tarun Dal President Yadav and NWA Chairperson Basnet had argued that there is no point in tendering resignation as their terms were not over yet. They had also said that they were ready to hold general convention anytime soon if the party directed them to do so.
Earlier in the afternoon, a group of NSU cadres had staged demonstration at the party´s headquarter in Sanepa protesting against the plan of party president to dissolve the NSU. NSU cadres led by Naina Singh Mahar also chanted strong slogans against President Koirala and Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, terming the resignation of the NSU President Pradip Paudel a conspiracy.
