Deputy Mayor Bishwokarma wins Ambedkar Award for Dalit advocacy

Deepak Bishwokarma, the deputy mayor of Nilkantha Municipality in Dhading, has been honored with the Dr Bhim Rawal Ambedkar Award for his long-standing advocacy for the Dalit community.

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Deepak Bishwokarma, the deputy mayor of Nilkantha Municipality in Dhading, has been honored with the Dr Bhim Rawal Ambedkar Award for his long-standing advocacy for the Dalit community. 


Known for his leadership in the struggle for Dalit rights, Bishwakarma has played a pivotal role in securing free education including scholarships for Dalits and the underprivileged.

As a deputy mayor, Bishwokarma championed the implementation of free education in his municipality and provided significant scholarships to marginalized groups, including Rs 100,000 for MBBS studies. His efforts also include developing a Dalit strategic plan and pushing for Dalit-friendly policies at the local level. 


Bishwokarma has been instrumental in forming a national association of dalit people’s representatives at the local level to further empower Dalit communities.
