Dengue infections till September reach 38,059

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The Ministry of Health and Population has said the number of dengue infections till September this year has exceeded 38,000. 

According to the data of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, the infection has so far spread to 76 districts, with 38,059 reported cases.  The total fatalities till date is 20. 

The division’s director Dr Rudra Marasini said dengue infection continues to spread and the risk for further rise in dengue cases still remains a considerable threat. 

The province-wise data shows that the highest 23,905 cases (62.08 percent) are reported in Koshi Province while Karnali has the lowest infection rate numbering 128 cases (0.03 percent).     

The Madhes Province has reported 590 cases (1.06), Bagmati 4,883 cases (12.08 percent), Gandaki 6,818 cases (17.09 percent), Lumbini 655 cases (1.07 percent) and Sudurpaschim Province 1,080 cases (2.08 percent).  

District-wise, the highest number of cases have been reported in Sunsari district (16,096 cases or 42.3 percent), followed by Tanahu (4,651 cases or 12.2 percent), Jhapa (3,581 cases or 9.4 percent), Dhading (3,130 cases or 8.2 percent), Morang (2,274 cases or 6 percent), Kaski (1,481 cases or 3.9 percent) and Kathmandu (802 cases or 2.1 percent) while the rest of the districts have reported 6,044 cases or 15.9 percent.
