Dengue control effort inadequate: Parliamentary team

CHITWAN, Oct 14: A parliamentary team after visiting the dengue affected areas of Chitawan and Nawalparasi districts has concluded that dengue control efforts in the area has been inadequate.



The team had consulted dengue patients, doctors, technicians of District Public Health Office, Head of Epidemiology Division, experts and people of the affected area, before reaching conclusion.[break]



The team has stated that though camps were established in three places, door to door awareness campaigns were organized and experts exerted their efforts to control the disease, most commoners still lack knowledge about the disease.



Coordinator of the team, parliamentarian Chitra Bahadur Shrestha stressed the need for support of all state entities and common people to contain the disease.



Member of the team, parliamentarian Uma Regmi said Chitawan needs separate communicable disease control hospital because of its nature of transit point.



Sharada Kumal stressed the need for immediate and long-term programs to contain the disease.



The government has deputed two parliamentary teams to visit the dengue affected areas, including Surkhet.



Public Health Inspector Ram KC said that only two people were found caught the disease among samples collected form 1567 people.
