KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The Federation of Nepal Cable Television Association (FNCTA) has demanded the government stop the illegal broadcasting and the broadcasting sector be brought under the tax net as per the law.
The federation issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the entire cable TV business would be shut down if the government does not take appropriate decisions for the protection and promotion of the entire cable TV business in Nepal.
Stating that it is in favor of not raising any additional tariff on the customers due to the current unfavorable situation of COVID-19 pandemic, the federation has demanded that the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology take the initiative to resolve the problem in the interest of all.
For the past three decades, cable television operators have been operating cable television services as a major source of information and entertainment to the Nepalis by implementing the fundamental right to information and communication guaranteed by the constitution, the federation said.
