KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The Defense Ministry has endorsed the Nepal Army’s proposal to procure 5,700 pieces of M7 Bayonet and weapon spare parts including NATO STANG Compatible Magazines from South Korea. The purchase is worth Rs 400 million. 

Army headquarters has already been given the nod by the Defense Ministry. The line ministry had tabled the proposal at the Cabinet for final approval. Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel approved the proposal on July 7, citing the urgency of arms spares. 

As per details provided by the ministry, a government to government agreement will be reached between South Korea and Nepal in this connection.

S&T Motiv Co Ltd, a state-run company in South Korea, will supply the M7 Bayonets and arms spares. 

The army had consulted with the supplier company through the South Korean embassy here. Earlier, the government had decided to purchase 6,000 plus M-16 rifles and other arms for Nepali peacekeepers deployed by the UN. The Public Procurement Act was revised to clear the payment at one go.
