KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The death toll from the Bhotekoshi flash flood in Rasuwa and other affected districts downstream has reached 589, according to the latest update released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on Friday evening.
The authority said 2400 people remain missing, while 101 injured people are receiving treatment at hospitals.
Among the victims, 12 were recovered in Rasuwa, 37 in Nuwakot, 40 in Dhading, 46 in Gorkha, 154 in Nawalparasi East, 27 in Nawalparasi West, 30 in Tanahun and 233 in Chitwan.

Among those reported missing are 28 Nepal Police personnel, 45 Nepali Army personnel, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, 15 people from customs offices and 15 from immigration offices. The missing list also includes 161 people in Rasuwa, one in Nuwakot, 933 associated with electricity projects, 66 in Makwanpur, 517 foreign nationals, 127 NRNs and three people associated with the Langtang National Park.
A total of 15,431 security personnel have been mobilised for search, rescue and relief operations. The deployment includes 4,473 Nepal Police personnel, 6,755 Nepali Army personnel and 4,203 Armed Police Force personnel.
Authorities have so far rescued 4,541 people, including 111 people rescued from a hydropower tunnel and 517 people rescued by air. As many as 129 foreign nationals have also been rescued. Nepali Army and private operators have used 16 helicopters to conduct 99 rescue flights so far.
Communication services have also been affected, with 195 telephone towers damaged. Following repairs, services have resumed at 145 of the affected towers.
Relief operations have continued across the affected areas. The government has provided Rs 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot, Rs 5 million to Dhading and a combined Rs 67.5 million to 15 affected municipalities.
Relief agencies have so far dispatched 32 truckloads of food and other relief materials and made six helicopter sorties to deliver supplies. Communication equipment has also been sent to affected areas.
Fuel supplies have been sent to Nuwakot, where petrol stations including Bahiravi, Suryamati and Panchkanya oil stores have 41,000 litres of diesel and 24,000 litres of petrol in stock. Another 17,000 litres of aviation fuel has been supplied to Nuwakot for rescue operations.
The NDRRMA said the update was prepared on the basis of information received from district administration offices, district and national emergency operation centres and other agencies. It said the figures include key developments related to the search for missing people, rescue operations and relief distribution following the Bhotekoshi flood.
