Cooking gas cylinder blast death toll climbs to four

SINDHUPALCHOWK, March 27: The death toll in Monday’s LPG cylinder explosion at Chaku Hydropower Project site in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, has reached four after two people missing in the blast were confirmed dead on Tuesday.

SINDHUPALCHOWK, March 27: The death toll in Monday’s LPG cylinder explosion at Chaku Hydropower Project site in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, has reached four after two people missing in the blast were confirmed dead on Tuesday.


Police confirmed the deaths of the two more people besides two others who died on the spot. A team from the Area Police Office (APO), Barhabise, said they found the missing bodies on Tuesday. 

“Their bodies were scattered into pieces. We recovered them 300 meters from the incident site,” said Inspector Yadav Thapa of the APO.

The pieces of their bodies were collected and brought to Barhabise Primary Health Post. Relatives of the deceased have already identified the bodies, police said. 


Police are yet to determine what caused the explosion. They suspect that the explosion could have occurred while the workers were cooking dinner in the site’s kitchen.


The kitchen stores five to ten filled LPG cylinders, police said. But the exact number of filled cylinders is yet to be determined. So far, police have found five cylinders at the incident site, informed Thapa. 


The deceased have been identified as Sandeep Lama of Humla and Bhaikaji Sherpa of Dolakha. The identities of the missing workers have been confirmed as Gopal Shrestha and HM Lama Magar.
