KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Daraz, an online marketplace, has said that it has been delivering 100,000 packages in Nepal in a month.
According to Daraz CEO Bjarke Mikkelsen, the online marketplace has been providing service to over 75,000 people in Nepal and increasing the number of service takers. “We hope to create 100,000 jobs by 2022,” he said, addressing an event in Kathmandu.
“Daraz is a mall, a marketplace, and a community in your pocket. We provide immediate and easy access to 250,000 plus products in more than 100 plus categories. We estimate that Daraz has created 5,000 jobs in Nepal, and every month 500 new sellers are educated through our university,” he added.

Stating that there are many obstacles in the market, Mikkelsen said that the company was prepared to face it. He also said that Daraz would soon unveil Daraz wallet in the Nepali market in the near future.”
During the event, Daraz announced its mission – ‘Make it easy to do business anywhere in the era of the digital economy’ – and how it aspires to lead Nepal into the digital era by 2022. According to the company, it has empowered 2,500 plus sellers in Nepal to transact through its technology so far.
“We firmly believe that the digital era is on par with the Industrial Revolution. In the coming 10-20 years, digital technology will fundamentally alter many parts of society from commerce to politics and culture. Our purpose is not only to embrace this change, but to proactively create change and welcome a better future for Nepal,” Mikkelsen further added.
Meanwhile, Daraz is organizing ‘Dashain Dhamaka’ campaign from September 15 to September 30. According to the company, customers can enjoy exclusive offers for various brands across all categories.
Daraz is also preparing for Alibaba’s global 11.11 campaign on November 11 which will be Nepal’s biggest online sale day, according to the press statement issued by the company.
