Unity General Convention to be held in April, 2021
KATHMANDU, Sept 11: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) held on Friday formally settled the work division of chairmen duo Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
NCP's Oli-led faction strips Chairman Dahal of executive rights
The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar on Friday decided that Dahal will handle the party issues as an executive chairman, while Oli will focus himself on the government affairs, according to the party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
“The party will be run on the basis of established guidelines of the party,” said Shrestha, adding that the party leadership will not interfere in the day to day functioning of the government. “However, the government shall mandatorily hold discussions within the party while deciding on issues of national importance.”
Shrestha said the government should first put forth any bills that it intends to endorse through the parliament within the party committee for necessary discussion.
The Standing Committee meeting also decided to hold the Unity General Convention of the party in Kathmandu later from April 7 to April 12, 2021. A meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee has been called for October 31.
Party Spokesperson Shrestha said that a total of 13 Standing Committee members presented their views during the meeting on Friday.
