GORKHA, August 10: A process has begun to develop a school curriculum in the Gurung language – which has been spoken in 22 villages of 14 VDCs in northern Gorkha.
The curriculum is being developed as part of the preparation of introducing teaching and learning at schools in Gurung language.
Preparation is on to develop language curriculum in a way to enforce this from coming educational year, shared Dharche municipality Mayor Santosh Gurung.
The idea was floated after a seminar on language recently held at the district headquarters, he added.
The collection of glossary of Gurung language words – generally used in day-to-day life – has been complete.
An 11-member committee was formed to prepare the Gurung language curriculum. According to Committee Coordinator Dil Bahadur Gurung, the initial draft of the textbook has been almost complete.
"We will initiate teaching and learning in Gurung language from grade 1 in coming educational session. Our plan is to arrange up to secondary education in the Gurung language," he informed. RSS
