Curfew in Gaur after situation worsens (update)

RAUTAHAT, April 4: After the situation got worse, District Administration Office (DAO), Rautahat has imposed curfew in Gaur area for an indefinite period effective from 2 pm today, informed Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel.

Brandishing bamboo staves, the irate locals have picketed the district administration office. The DAO staffers are inside the office while the clashes between the irate locals and police are taking place.



Tension has flared in the district headquarters Gaur after an Armed Police Force van crushed a man on Saturday morning.

Sixty –year-old Ashish Thakur of Gaur-10, Sabgadha, who was run over by the van used by AFP, Base Camp, Sarmujawa, died while undergoing treatment this morning.

Police have fired 20 rounds of teargas shells after the irate locals entered the restricted zone clamped by the District Administration Office. The irate locals have set a police van, Na 2 Jha 582, on fire while Rajdevi FM correspondent Dipendra Yadav has been brutally thrashed by the police.

Meanwhile, a meeting held at the initiation of the FNCCI Rautahat Chapter, has demanded to declare Ashish Takur martyr and due compensation for the victim's family. The meeting has also welcomed government decision to cancel the extension of land revenue and survey offices from the district headquarters to Chandranigahapur.


District Administration Office, Rautahat has imposed ban on the movement along the main thoroughfares of Gaur from 8 am to 5 pm today to take the situation under control.

Rautahat locals were up in arms after the government decided to extend service centers from district headquarters Gaur. Last night, when an APF squad was preparing to return to its base camp after the situation calmed down, the irate locals started hurling stones at the van. Demonstrator Thakur was killed while the van was being pulled over.

Seriously injured Thakur, who was rushed to Gaur Hospital for treatment, died in course of treatment this morning, Dr Manoj Kaushal told Republica. The victim has sustained injuries to his leg and chest.

District Police Office, Rautahat has taken driver police constable Anil Gurung under control.
