Crocodile released into Karnali river

BARDIYA, April 15: An endangered species of Ghariyal crocodile has been released into the Karnali river within the ambit of Bardiya National Park.

The crocodile release was made at the consent of the Department of National Park on the occasion of Wildlife Week.Altogether 15 Ghariyals including five male and 10 female were released to Lalmatiya and Gainda Machan of the Karnali River within the national park – the natural habitat of the crocodile – for the preservation of rare Ghariyals.

The four-year-old Ghariyals weighing at the range of 10-15 kg were released to the Karnali, said Chief Conservation Officer at the Bardiya National Park, Ram Chandra Kandel.

Earlier, some 20 Ghariyals brought from Chitwan were released to the Babai river for the preservation of the disappearing species. RSS
