Criticism of judiciary should be fact-based: CJ

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi on Sunday said criticism of judiciary should be objective and based on facts.



He was speaking at a function in Kathmandu organized to mark the 21st anniversary of Judicial Council.[break]



Regmi said, "Judiciary should not be criticized just on the basis of someone´s personal weaknesses,” adding, “Before accusing the whole system as corrupt, one should produce proof.”



Speaking at the same function, Attorney General Mukti Pradhan said the court should provide justice by respecting public sentiment. He also said the Supreme Court (SC) should consider the ´power equation´ while delivering justice.



“Our nation is still in transition, so, the SC should consider the power equation while delivering justice,” Pradhan said.



Similarly, Prem Bahadur Khadka, the president of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) stressed that the lawyers shouldn´t take any decision under external pressure.



Stating that there are several challenges and anomalies in the judiciary, Minister for Law and Justice Brijesh Kumar Gupta said, “The Judicial Council should work in a transparent manner by respecting public sentiments.”



During the event, Judicial Council (JC) honored Madhav Prasad Chalise, lawyer from Appellate Court, Kaski, and Jagat Prasad Chalise, lawer of Kathmadu District Court with best lawyers award of the year.
