KATHMANDU, June 21: Cristiano Ronaldo has set a Guinness World Record by becoming the first men's football player to reach 200 international appearances. He achieved this milestone during a European Championship qualifier match between Portugal and Iceland. Ronaldo marked the occasion by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute, securing a 1-0 victory for Portugal.
Reports from international media outlets state that Ronaldo's goal was the only one in the game, and it came against Iceland, who played with 10 men after Willum Willumsson was sent off with 10 minutes remaining in the Euro 2024 qualifier.

According to the report by Al Jazeera, Overtaking Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa’s 196-cap record in March, the 38-year-old Ronaldo was honored by Guinness World Records before kickoff on Tuesday for reaching 200 games for Portugal almost 20 years after he made his debut for the national side.
Ronaldo added to his remarkable ‘record for international goals’ by scoring his 123rd goal for Portugal on that same night, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Throughout his illustrious career, Ronaldo has played for top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.
