Winter is around the corner and it won’t be long before you will want to cuddle up and get all cozy.
Styling tricks to make a small living room seem bigger
Here’s how you can give your room a makeover to make sure you will be able to enjoy winter from the sanctuary of your own room.
Build on layers
Layering is an effective way to make your room cozier. Brick walls turn super cold during winter and if you stay inside your room a lot, this can affect your health too. Layering things on all of the surfaces in your room will mask the cold and instead make your room a lot warmer. You will not be exposed to cold tiles, brick walls and wooden flooring and this trick instantly makes your room 10 times cozier. Bring out all of the rugs you have stored in your cupboards and place them all over your bedroom floor. You could also add multiple layers of blankets, quilts and pillows on your bed. This will also ensure that your bed is not freezing when you first slip into it. You can do the same to your couches and sofas. The idea is to make it comfy by making it all squishy.
Use neutral tones
By neutral colors we mean shades that are not too saturated and those that look a little washed out. Some common examples of neutral colors are: white, off-white, beige, lilac, tan (or nude), brown, mauve, grey, navy and black. Use of neutral colors for your room will instantly give it a calming and snug vibe. These colors are favored by minimalists all over the world because it also makes your room look put together even if you use just a few items. On the flip side, even if you have tons of things in your room but if they are all in neutral shades then your room will more spacious and palatial than it actually is. Neutral does not have to be boring – you can use different shades of neutral colors or layer multiple patterns within your room.
Incorporate soft and fuzzy textures
What screams cozy more than things that have a soft or a fuzzy texture right? And luckily for us, a lot of room decor is available in this texture. While incorporating softer and fuzzier fabrics in your room, you can start with the floor since that is probably the most rigid surface in your room. Cover the floor with fluffy carpets or rugs. You can use the layering trick here. After the floor is done then move onto your bed. Select bed sheets made out of soft linen fabrics for your bed. You could also opt for a velvet bed sheet since this fabric traps the heat and ensures that your bed is always warm. If it is possible, swap your current mattress for a softer and bouncier one. You can also add on squishes, soft pillows, cushions and blankets (or quilts) to both your bed and the couch.
Aroma and lightning
Our surrounding and atmosphere as a whole also dictate the vibe we get from a place. Your sense of vision and smell comes into play here. To make your room feel even cozier and more snuggly, you could adjust the lightning and the aroma of your room. Although bright overhead lights are very useful and brighten up your room properly, this can affect how cozy you feel in your own room. Turn those off and use dimmer lamps or fairy lights to illuminate your room. You could also burn a few candles if that is more your thing than lamps and fairy lights. This gives your room a very subdued and cozy vibe. Use an oil diffuser to make your room smell amazing. Instead of spraying room fresheners, use essentials oil because they have a more natural and clean aroma. Pine, peppermint, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, cedar wood and nutmeg are some good scents that have a warm undertone. You could also burn aromatic candles for the same purpose.
It’s all in the details
Your bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary. Fill it with all the things you love. Add tiny details into the décor purely for your own gratification. Cover the walls with posters, polaroids, notes, artwork or anything that you love. You could also hang up tapestries on your walls to give your room more character. Framing quotes and artwork that you like and hanging them up is also something else you can do. Place cushions and pillows of your favorite characters on top of your bed. Maybe even cover the candles you light with intricate glass jars. Customize your room to be everything you want it to be. Only then will you feel like it is your personal, cozy sanctuary.
