CPN-Maoist proposes to defer CA poll

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Mohan Baidya-led CPN Maoist has proposed to defer Constituent Assembly elections for March next year.



An all-party meeting called by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav held at the president’s residence Sheetalniwas on Friday could not come to any substantial decision as the CPN-Maoist presented its previous stance to defer the CA poll. [break]

During the meeting, the major parties had proposed Baidya-led alliance that the election date slated for November 19 could be deferred by one or two weeks. “If the CPN-Maoist needs a few weeks more for nomination of candidates and other election-related process, we can defer election by a week or two,” said Nepali Congress Vice president Ramchandra Poudel emerging from the meeting.



According to the leaders representing the High Level Political Committee, who were present in the all-party meeting, the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) urged the CPN Maoist to come on board the election process slated for Nov 19.



Despite differences, the major parties and 33-party alliance have agreed to continue their talks. The next meeting is slated for Sunday at 1pm.
