Mani Thapa, chief of the Revolutionary Communist Party, a member of the 33-party alliance, said enforcing a nationwide shutdown is the most peaceful form of protest. He also termed the protests a prelude to the third people´s movement that has become necessary to safeguard national sovereignty and people´s livelihood. According to him, the issues raised by the alliance are aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty and in the interests of the people at large.
“Nationwide shutdown is the most peaceful form of protest and is part of our struggle for democracy. The only alternative to such protests can be an armed insurrection,” said Thapa.
According to a statement issued by the alliance on Sunday, the alliance would carry out protest programs from March 28 to April 6. The alliance will hold corners meetings in all the major cities, including the capital, on 28 March. Similarly, the alliance would stage demonstrations in all the major cities across the country and picket Singha Durbar and district administration offices on April 1 and April 2. On 3 April, the alliance will take out a motorcycle rally.
