COVID-19 tally surpasses 1,200 in Kathmandu in two weeks, 98 in last 24 hours

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Ministry of Health and Population has recorded as many as 98  more cases of the novel coronavirus disease in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours.

Eighty people from Kathmandu district tested positive for this infectious disease while nine each from Lalitpur and Bhaktapur were diagnosed with the disease, according to Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry.

The available data reveals that the Valley has witnessed a total of 1,213 cases of COVID-19 infections in the last two weeks. The health ministry reported 461 cases in the last week while the number of newly confirmed cases this week has reached 752.

With the government deciding to lift the 120-day-long lockdown, many people from outside the Valley entered Kathmandu. Thus, a large number of people got exposed to this viral disease. In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in recent days, the local administrations in all three districts in the valley have already enforced prohibitory orders.
