BAITADI, Aug 16: Owing to heightened fears of COVID-19 spread here in the district, the District Administration Office, Baitadi has decided to impose restriction on the celebration of Gaura and Teej--two major festivals celebrated in the region.
A meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) in the district held on Sunday urged people living in Sudur Paschim Province to celebrate the festivals without mass gathering.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Mohanraj Joshi said locals were asked not to gather for celebration as per the directive issued by the federal Ministry of Home Affairs. “The decision was taken in a bid to curb the spread of novel coronavirus disease,” said CDO Joshi. The people are asked to perform regular worship at the temples and observe festivals indoors.
The Gaura festival falls on August 26, while Teej festival this year falls on August 21. The administration also decided to suspend all group activities including seminar, mass meeting, workshop and training in view of COVID-19 infection in the district.
The local units in the district have also been directed to arrange quarantine facilities for those arriving in the district from India and the third countries.
The CCMC meeting also decided to conduct PCR tests of those working in the frontline including health professionals, security personnel, people’s representatives and civil servants.
