A single bench of Judge Surendra Bir Singh Basnyat issued the stay order in response to a writ petition filed by the travel agency, said Sushil Kaji Baniya, an official at the agency. [break]
The travel agency moved the court after its hoarding boards were removed by the traffic police following Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai´s direct orders.
But the travel company said it has taken strong exception to the removal of the hoarding boards, claming that the police have targeted them only.
“The hoarding boards of other companies have been retained but ours have been removed,” said Baniya.
According to Baniya, the traffic police have removed over 200 of the 466 hoarding boards of the travel agency as of Wednesday.
Baniya said the travel agency has signed an agreement with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to display its hoarding boards in different parts of the capital for a year. The company has also lodged a complaint at KMC.
“KMC has not issued any directive for the remove the hoarding boards,” Baniya said.
According to Baniya, the travel agency has spent Rs 10 million for the hoarding boards carrying public service messages.
“If we are asked to remove the hoarding boards, we will remove them on our own,” Baniya complained.
Meanwhile, Jagatman Shrestha, spokesperson at the traffic police office, said the office will continue to remove hoarding boards that obstruct the sight of traffic signs.
“No one can hang hoarding boards on electricity poles obstructing traffic signs, though tax has been paid to KMC,” said Shrestha.
