DHANGADI, Mar 14: Kanchanpur District Court has ordered to release the police officials on bail, who were charged for allegedly meting out torture and destroying evidence associated to the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Panta – a 13-year-old girl from Bhimdutta municipality-2 of Kanchanpur.

The single bench of Judge Dr Rajendra Acharya has order bail of Rs 900,000 each to DSP Gyan Bahadur Sethi and Inspector Ekendra Khadka for alleging their involvement in torture.

Likewise, the court has asked Rs 400,000 with Inspector Jagdish Bhatta, Rs 350,000 with Sub Inspector Hari Singh Dhami, Rs 300,000 with Sub Inspector Ram Singh Dhami and Rs 250, 000 with police constable Chandani Saud.

Nirmala's mother Durga Devi Panta on 18 December 2018 had filed an FIR at the local police office against eight persons, including suspended Superintendent of Police Dilliraj Bista for allegedly spoiling evidence and torturing against Dilip Singh Bista.  The court had summoned the accused police officials to present themselves before the court. SP Bista and CIB DSP Angoor GC, however, are fugitive.

Dilip was held in police detention and tortured to accept forcefully his involvement in the murder of Nirmala.  Acting on an FIR lodged by Durga Devi and Dilip's brother Khadga Singh Bista, the government attorney office on March 6 had registered separate cases at the district court.
