RUKUM, Nov 26: It had just been three days that Nabin Shrestha of Rukumkot and Anita Pradhan of Itahari had tied the knot. After completion of the marriage ceremony at Anita's hometown, the couple came to Rukumkot to get the blessings of their elders.

The newly-wed couple was in a rush to resume their duties as police officers for the November 26 polls. As a result, they boarded a jeep along with other passengers on November 24 to reach the district headquarters Khalanga, from where they were planning to move to their respective workstations.

Even though the couple had planned to spend the rest of their lives happily with each other, their dreams were shattered on the way. The jeep they were traveling on met with an accident in Kalimati of Musikot Municipality-6 on Friday. At least seven persons died and three others were critically injured in the tragic accident.

The fatal accident on the eve of the elections has spoiled the election mood of both East and West Rukum. Both Nabin and Anita were police inspectors.
