KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Dr Govinda KC, who is being treated at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) after ending his 15th hunger strike on 27th day on July 26, is to be discharged from the hospital within a couple of days.
The government signed a nine-point agreement, promising to address all the demands raised by Dr KC on the 27th day of his 15th fast-unto-death which had begun on June 30. Dr KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon and professor at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) had put forth a seven-point demand.
Dr KC was admitted to the ICU on the night of July 26. His condition was critical. He could not even talk. He was transferred to the general ward four days ago.
“Now, his condition is normal with normal level of parameters but cannot stand even for a while as he is too weak,” said Dr Divya Singh, who is attending to Dr KC at TUTH. “Dr KC has started taking solid food,” she added, “I will examine everything tomorrow. If everything keep improving, he will be discharged within a day or two.”
