JAJARKOT, March 12: UCPN (Maoist) politburo member Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Tuesday said that the country has derailed from its constitutional path ever since the process began for the formation of a sitting chief justice-led government.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Revolutionary Journalists Association here in Khalanga, Basnet, however, claimed that the main political parties’ decision to form a CJ-led government came out of compulsion on the backdrop of deepening political and constitutional crisis that emerged due to the parties’ persistent inability to forge consensus.[break]

Basnet also made it clear that his party backtracked on the earlier decision to form a government under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala as the NC started ‘cornering’ his party.

He also blamed the opposition parties for the current political stalemate in the country. He added that the opposition parties neither came up with a suitable alternatives to bail the country out of the present political deadlock nor recognized the options forwarded by the ruling UCPN (Maoist).
