Cops at work at IGP's sibling house recalled

NEPALGUNJ, Sept 9: All five Armed Police Force (APF) personnel have been recalled from the house of APF Inspector General (IG) Shailendra Kumar Shrestha´s elder brother where they had been working as construction laborers.



Four of the five APF men on Thursday rejoined APF´s border patrol for which they were originally deployed. The remaining APF man was recalled by the Kohalpur-based Tripura Battalion of the APF. [break]



They were recalled by their respective units after Nagarik daily, Republica´s sister publication, in its Thursday edition, reported about the unlawful deployment at IG Shrestha´s elder brother Nanda Lal´s house.



"We recalled them after we found that they were working as construction laborers instead of doing their assigned task as undercover agents," said APF´s border patrol unit´s chief in Nepalgunj, Mahesh Kumar Shrestha.



They were working without payment for the renovation of Nanda Lal´s house in Gadhenpur, Nepalgunj-13, for the last one month. They were found constructing the compound wall at the house on Wednesday when Republica correspondent reached there.



It is learnt that IG Shrestha on Thursday told his subordinate officers that he was unaware of the fact that they had been working at his brother´s house. However, sources say Nanda Lal had himself asked the IG to send some APF men for the renovation.



APF spokesperson Bhishma Kanta Aryal said an investigation team has been formed to look into the misuse of APF personnel. "APF personnel cannot be used for personal purpose." He also said that the APF headquarters was no informed about the deployment of the personnel at Nanda Lal´s house.







Sources say IG Shrestha had sent APF men to renovate his brother´s house shortly after being promoted to the post of APF chief. He was appointed IG on July 31. Nanda Lal wanted to renovate and paint his house, apart from building the compound wall after IG shrestha made up his mind to celebrate upcoming Dashain festival with his whole family in Nepalgunj.



Originally from Pyuthan, the Shrestha family has been living in Nepalgunj for the last two decades. As IG Shrestha has built his own house in Kathmandu, he rarely visits Nepalgunj.



Two weeks ago when he came to Nepalgunj after being appointed as APF chief, he had promised to celebrate Dashain this time with his whole family. Nanda Lal works at Bheri Zonal Hospital.
