KATHMANDU, Sep 1: The Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track project (KTFTP) has awarded contracts for three final packages of its construction work.

With the recent development, the project has now finalized contracting for its entire construction works. According to the KTFTP officials, the project finalized tenders of its 8A, 9A and 9B packages on Wednesday.

This is the second time the project called for tender for these packages. The joint ventures of Nepali and Indian companies were among the major applicants while a few Chinese companies also competed in the bidding process.

The Nepal Army has undertaken the construction of the fast track project that connects Khokana of Lalitpur to Nijgadh of Bara. The project began on April 25, 2017. The deadline of the project completion has been revised to mid-April, 2027.

Citing the slow progress of the construction work, the government two weeks ago, revised the detailed project report of the project. The revised DPR of the project has reduced both costs and length of the road project.

Initially, the project was estimated to cost Rs 213.09 billion while the target had been set to complete the project by fiscal year 2023/24 by dividing the work into 11 clusters.

The length of the fast track road connecting Kathmandu to Terai is 72.5 kilometers in which 55.5 kilometers of roads, 6.41 kilometers of tunnels and 87 bridges with a total length of 10.59 km are being constructed.
