KATHAMNDU, Nov 5: Consumers are reeling under acute shortage of cooking fuel for the past couple of months. But Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is doing nothing to inform people about availability of liquefied petroleum (LP) gas.

NOC has been posting details of refilling stations providing diesel and petrol to public. Based on the information they are queuing at refilling stations accordingly. But general people are running here and there carrying heavy cylinders on their back in the absence of such details regarding distribution of LP gas.Rumors were making rounds in Kathmandu Valley on Saturday that NOC was preparing to distribute 50,000 cylinders. Many rushed to their nearest distributors accordingly. But people were disappointed when distributors told them that they have not rot receive any LP gas supplies from bottlers.

Media outlets even reported that refilled cylinders were sold at black market. However, NOC officials have refuted such reports. "Bottlers are distributing LP gas to dealers, but in small volumes," he said. He, however, did not divulge details of LP gas supplied to dealers by the bottlers.

Realizing the need to disseminate information regarding LP gas distribution, he said NOC has established a call center to provide information to general people regarding supply of petroleum products. "People can call at our hotline number (01-4262585) from 10 am till 5 pm to get updates about LPG supply in Kathmandu Valley," he said. Ghimire also vowed to upload details of LPG distribution on NOC's website.
