KATHMANDU, June 16: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut has said that the construction of the Nijgadh International Airport cannot be deferred.
In an interview with the agitating Nijgadh Public Concern Committee demanding that the international airport should be built in Nijgadh, Chief Minister Raut said that the airport would be a key to the development of Madhesh Province. He said that the decision of moving the airport from its current location would not be acceptable.
He said that the full text of the Supreme Court decision has not been released yet. He said, "We are determined to build an international airport in Nijgadh,” adding that unnecessary trees will not be cut down for the construction of the airport.
He said that the people of Nijgadh should immediately postpone the agitation including curfew and wait for the full text of the Supreme Court. "We will start protests again if the full text is against the airport project,” he added.
