"The meeting has endorsed a new working procedure thereby paving the way for appointing candidates at constitutional bodies on merit basis," said Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang after the meeting. [break]
The procedure specifies the qualifications, responsibilities and jurisdictions of the chiefs and members to be appointed to constitutional bodies.
As per the new provisions, the CC Secretariat will first publish 15 days public notice calling applications from interested candidates.
The CC secretariat will then assess the applications. Applicants are required to submit CV, past contribution in the related field and future strategy. They can furnish such documents either via email or drop them at the CC secretariat directly.
The CC secretariat will then prepare a roster of the applicants. "Members of the CC secretariat will assess the qualifications and potentials of the applicants and take a decision on appointments," said Nepal Congress Leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who attended the CC meeting in his capacity of an opposition leader.
The new appointments at the constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Election Commission, Public Service Commission and Office of Auditor General have been stalled for years due to differences among political parties over sharing of the positions.
