BAGLUNG, Dec 25: CPN-UML general secretary Ishwor Pokharel today reiterated that the constitution amendment proposal should be put on hold. Saying the proposal was not the need of the hour at this time, he said, "The proposal should be put on hold if not revoked."
Pokharel was speaking at a press conference organized by Baglung chapter of Press Chautari Nepal.
Claiming that the proposal is against national interest, he, however, said the UML was not against the amendment. "The constitution amendment should be based on practice, experience and meaning. The UML cannot agree on language, citizenship, representation and re-demarcation of provincial boundaries as stated in the proposal," he said.
He said Article 274 of the constitution states that only the province assembly has the right to redraw boundaries of provinces.
He also urged the government to go for local body elections after putting the amendment proposal on hold. "The UML is ready to help hold the elections," he said. RSS
