KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Friday condemned the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) for holding the House of Representatives hostage due to the latter's indecision to pick a candidate for the post of speaker.
A meeting of the NC parliamentary party presided over by president Sher Bahadur Dueba held at Singha Durbar said that the NCP's indecision over picking the candidate for the post of speaker has also raised serious questions on the ruling party's commitment to the parliamentary system.
Issuing a press statement, chief whip of the NC parliamentary party Balkrishna Khad urged to begin the process immediately for electing the lower house speaker.

"The parliament meeting which is scheduled for coming Monday should begin the process for electing the new speaker," the party stated in the press statement.
The Congress party also stressed the need to immediately endorse the US proposed 500 million MCC grant from the parliament.
